I may be wrong, but I believe this Canon model will not allow you to zoom in or out while shooting video. Not a huge need, but may be annoying not to be able to take advantage of the 12x optical zoom while in video mode.
The newer Panasonic Lumix model DMC-ZS3(12x optical zoom as well) will allow zooming while in video mode, and had much higher all around reviews at dpreview

Just bought the DMC-ZS3 for my girlfriend for her birthday - after doing extensive review, it is hands-down a better camera than this Canon (even with the lack of manual controls, which most people don't use anyways.
Pick up the Pansonic on amazon for a similar price.
