At 50", 720P just doesn't cut it anymore.

Hmm, that depends #1. I bought a samsung 50 inch and the 720p looks better than most other TV's 1080p. I was very patient visiting many stores and looking at many different feeds, and the samsung was by far the best. Even my skeptical friend with the most expensive sony 1080p TV had to admit that the samsung was better!

R ember most cable networks hd is 1080i NOT p so the 720P should be fine.

720p is fine at this size with plasma. Panasonic beats Samsung though.

42" Panny plasma for less than $500. I'd jump on this if I had the cash.

I have the 50" Sanyo, it has great color! It auto adjusts brightness, and I picked it over the 1080p sets, because of the picture. If you are buying a TV for watching Blue Ray DVD's "most" of the time. Then I would say get a 1080p set. If you are watching TV, regular DVD's, and a few Xbox360 games, this thing in great! I use Windows 7 to record broadcast antenna HD, and then watch the shows over the Xbox360, it looks great. I chose plasma because LCD's look dull compaired to this, and it's nice to have the same brightness at "any" angle, and NO MOTION BLUR, because a movie is a "moving picture". The only things you need to worry about on plasma TV's are burn in. If you do not leave a screen parked on the same thing for long streatches of time, plasma is for you.
