Ah that’s the issue they aren't always “the same items” sold by other retailers.
Back in the day they would actually strong-arm folk like CorningWare to essentially offer all the other retail outlets sets with some spoon or other utensil. So A) CorningWare either got even less margin selling to other retail outlets or; B) the other retail outlets had a higher price and a different SKU. However, they more often they contact/buy in volume and get things taken out (de-contented) like their classic Read’in Rabbit Christmas deal on a system priced lower ($30), but it didn’t come with the two books like a standard $40 package. You really had to look closely at the package to understand that package wasn’t the normal retail version. Many parents found that Christmas morning all they got was the one preload story.
It is a case of ‘Caveat emptor’ and in more cases “If it sounds to Good to be true, it probably is” for most of their deals. It’s not that I refuse to go into a Walmart. I just won’t go out of my way to do all my business with them and never take their Ad’s at face value.
