I'm suprised the reviews are so good for this thing. Even the Bissel's get high marks. May be as good as rug doctor, but can't be as powerful as the professional guy whose hose is connected to his van.

I have tried many brands and this one is still going strong after 5 years.

This SteamVac With Clean Surge does a really good job. Light weight makes it easy to maneuver.

I wish it was illegal to call these things "Steam" Vacs, since the name by itself is blatant false marketing. Water Vac would be better...

#6 - I don't know how hot, but mine does heat the water/solvent solution as it uses it. Might be steam. It does a great job of cleaning anyway. I paid less, but it is a good product and worth the money. After four Rug Doctor rentals you are saving money. I have had mine for at least four years and it runs like a champ. It gets used about every other month.

I own it. I like it. It definitely does not do anything related to steam though. If I've got a really tough job to do with it I'll boil water and then add to the reservoir with cleaning solution.

I agree #6 I own one and although it does a good job there is absolutely no steam anywhere in this machine.
As far as comparing this to the guy with his hose connected to his van, it is certainly not as efficient for very dirty carpets but it is far more convenient. You clean the area you want to when you want to. Best place to buy the cleaning solution is Costco when they have it as it sells out quickly.

Does "steam" necessarily mean "boiled" or "hot"?
