i'll have to see for a while if this thing i worth buying

I was thinking about waiting also. But I've had it with ATT and crappy cell service.
though I didn't go through wirefly, because I wouldn't be able to get my corporate discount though them. I only paid $230 for the phone with a one year agreement. So the extra is good for me. I can stick it out for a year at that price. And if I don't like the phone, I can always send it back.

Don't forget, by mid-November, Verizon is going to jack up the penalty for breaking your contract. If that's important to you, you might not want to wait.

That being said, I have yet to read a bad review for this phone, though I admit I haven't seen all of them.

My co-worker just got this during lunch today. It is rather heavy... more heavy than the iphone for sure. The back of the phone seems to get real warm, but not hot.. probably due to the metal body. The slide screen is very stable and overall it seems like a solid choice.

Of all the phones that Verizon did carry... none of them appealed to me. This is a great phone for Verizon.

They were the first to bring the Android OS to market. I myself am a G1 user and huge android fan. Although the Droid is walking all over T-Mobile's HTC based handsets....I want droid so badly..

One thing that puzzles me is why the Motorola Droid only has 256MB memory onboard. OK...there's the microSD slot, and a complimentary 16GB card thrown in. But here's the catch: afaik, apps won't run off the SD slot, only the built-in memory (several reviews mention this). Strange way to limit functionality.

The main executable must be on the phone to launch, but the good news is that apps can access the memory card so developers who make large apps will store the majority of the app on the card and create a small launcher that sits on the phone.

#6 - that would be 512MB. I think the biggest app available now is about 15MB, so it is hardly inadequate. All your data goes on the card anyway. And #7 is right as well. The high-res games will put the graphics on the card once the memory is 2/3 depleted.

256 mb sounds like a horrible idea for a phone that has to last u 2 yrs supposedly

#6, Cyanogen or somebody will soon root this phone, and then you can install App2SD and run apps from the SD card.

I've heard the new HTC Eris Droid is also very good alternative to the moto droid for some people. Anyone know more about how the 2 compare.

I'm curious what people think about the lack of multi-touch support on this S version of this phone?

I hope Congress gets their act together and bans phone companies from having exclusive deals on cell phones. Nothing like the free market to bring prices down.

#14 I'm seeing in reviews over and over that the Droid works with multi-touch. The only missing function seems to be pinch-and-zoom.

#16 - it does do multi-touch. However, the default zoom in/out on web pages is set to the double-tap. I imagine that there is an app to correct that if you wish. I actually kind of like to double tap since I don't have to adjust my hand (I usually have my thumb pulled-in) when I zoom. A matter of preference I imagine.

So far I love this phone. I threw over 40 apps in yesterday and used less than 100MB, so there's still plenty. Multitouch is definitely there and pinch/zoom works in the latest Picsay app for those still in doubt. The only fear so far is battery life, but I know I'm using it more in the first few days than I would typically. Unplugged from charger at 7am, died by 7pm with what I'd consider more average use today. At least we can swap batteries, but ideally wouldn't have to.
