This camera has incredibly low noise level at high ISO. It has the same noise level at ISO 3200 as my K100D at 800 (shooting RAW). Combined with SIGMA F2.8 77-200mm zoom it allowed me to make beautiful shots of my son playing hockey (which I was not able to do with K100D at all).

    gmy_gmy,

I am thinking of going to this or the K-7 (I also have a K100D). Can you tell me how much faster you think the auto-focus is? I have all kinds of problems with slow focus on the K100D and am hoping this might fix it. Also, how is the video on this?

This is so new I can't find any reviews from the usual sites. Is Pentax worth considering vs. Canon or Nikon in the same price range?

#2 I would suggest using manual focus.

#3 lots of info here http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/

    knightryder,

The AF is much better. Again, my primary use for both cameras is hockey (and it is very challenging "subject" for a camera - long distance, fast movement, dirty glass, bad lighting, very high DR, you need low noise to recognize a face behind a mask across the field etc.). I had a lot of problems with my K100D refusing to focus at all or hunting for focus for a ten seconds or so. I was blaming it on dirty glass and cold. I have no such problems with K-x (well, it is not that cold on rinks yet). In normal outdoor situation my K100D is focusing fast enough for me not to notice, so I can not tell whether K-x is much faster (it does feel faster, though). K-x has much faster continuous shooting rate.

I have not done any useful videos yet, but it seems to be a pain. Focusing for video (as well as in Live Mode which I never use) is extremely slow both indoors and outdoors. I think manual focus is the best bet for video.

I was going for K7 as well, but as soon as K-x reviews appear claiming that noise levels are noticeably better I had no doubts. I will miss a lot of better features of K7, but, again, for hockey high ISO ability is almost the only thing that counts. For the rest of shooting I am taking Lumix FZ28 anyway.
