    Or switch to Ubuntu.

Ahh, Ubuntu. A potentially great OS which is ruined by linux software which (excluding Open Office) is little more than thousands of half-finished half-assed applets with bad ergonomics.

Give me a Photoshop equivalent (and don't say Gimp, that makes me laugh).

Give me the equivalent of Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere (Cinelerra?? Please, pull my teeth).

Is this a good deal? Or should I try to get one through a student discount?

#2 then you better keep shelling out the hundreds of dollars each year for your precious windows + programs that run with it, Or pirate them.

Windows 7 is causing a lot of really annoying little problems with two of my computers. Vista was actually better than Windows 7. F Microsoft for this!

Also, this deal sucks. Use your student discount if you can.

I did the student download ($30 at www.win741.com), worked fine.

I did the student version also. Install was a breeze, found all the drivers I needed for a somewhat older machine and I see a huge speed increase from Vista Ultimate.

To #s 8-10: If you are a member of any college, then you can get the software for $20 or so. The version you are getting for $29 is the lowest one of the 3 available from MS. It's also an upgrade...
