win 7 starter?! lol need at least 2gb ram and faster cpu. my atom 280 struggles with w7 ultimate tiny edition. 2gb ram, o/c 1909mhz. i'm thinking switching back to xp lite or tiny because of lag.

Or switch to eeebuntu #2. You don't need Windows unless you require some specific software that will only run under Windows. For most typical apps (browsers, email, drawing, IM, bittorrent, media player, etc.) you might as well run something that's fast, free, and simple.

#3 I've got an older laptop hp pavilion ze4600 with 750 ram and
AMD 2500 cpu running xp home.
I just started to use this laptop again would installing eeebuntu
speed it up and would I miss anything doing so??? drivers etc.

Agree. But I would not load eeebuntu on that HP. eeebuntu is just Ubuntu customized for the Asus eeePC series. So it's been tuned specifically for those machines. For any other machine, I'd go with straight Ubuntu or find another flavor such as what #5 is using.
You'll find that Ubuntu does everything you need on a netbook, and does it faster than Windows. The only downside is that it can sometimes get a little techie if something doesn't work right. But that's better than sucking it up and living with with the bugs, security holes, and flaws like you have to with Windows.
