wow. get out of my way. I'll take 10 of them.

I'm surprised the price on these have yet to drop, considering they don't support the latest Intel sockets

these are actually very good coolers, especially if you use it with a low power cpu.

I thought I was seeing things, when I built my first pc with a similar Zalman cooler, and noticed the fan would stop occasionally. The fins are so good at keeping the temperature down, the nearby case fan was moving enough air across the cooler to keep the cpu from over-heating!

I'm not impressed w/ the Zalman cooler I bought. Spent $55 on it and it only reduced my temps from the factory intel heatsink by 8 deg C. Not what I was looking for with that kind of investment.

I've tried reseating the heat sink multiple times with various types of thermal paste, including Arctic Silver 5 and Dynex from WorstBuy. Didn't help . Same result everytime with slight variance.

I'm thinking maybe I just got unlucky with my unit and there is somehow poor conductivity in the heatsink somehwhere. Most ppl recommend Zalman which is why I bought, but I'll think twice before buying again.

i have been similarly unimpressed with my zalman cooler(s) all 3 of them. The silenx heatpipe direct touch is considerably better. dunno about the factory heatsink but it maxes out with my quad core oc at 51c compared to the zalman 9700 at low 60s. Also I got this one for $20, dont bother unless you need low profile

I wouldn't give that much credit to your Zalman...

same thing happened with my Athlon64 on stock heatsink.
The fan wouldn't be spinning most of the time, since when the CPU load is low or on idle, the multiplier clocks down, and your processor is probably running at your body temp or less.

Then again, all that depends on how your mobo is configured to manage fan speeds. On my C2Q, no matter how cool the processor is running, my mobo never lets the fan on my OCZ Vendetta 2 stop.

I got this about 3 years ago for 30 at Frys AR. It was more quiet than the standard Intel heatsink. But like #4, it really did not do that much better than the standard.

Never try this unit before but I think my Zalman 9500 and 9700 perform well for me..
