hardly a deal, but most macs never seem to go on sale.

These are one of the few instances where I think a Mac might make sense. Yes, you can pay $100-$200 less and build your own little HTPC but it requires work and a lot of burp around to get things right. Right here, you got a nice, tight solution that just burp works. I guess it all depends on how much your time is worth.

Check to make sure this ain't a refurb.

True, #4. Not to mention the time to keep the viruses and malware at bay on a continuing basis.

Does it come with a keyboard and mouse or is that extra? How big is the screen and refresh rate?

    #7, problem solved:

    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041912&p_id=4852&seq=1&format=2

According to monoprice, the Mini DVI port does not output audio so you would only be using this adapter to get video display on your TV and routing audio to your TV via separate audio cables.

I don't see how this would be an ideal HTPC. For this price range I would like to see BD-ROM, bigger HDD, HDMI, more RAM and the ability to bit-stream HD lossless audio. I don't any of that here. I've built custom with all that for cheaper with relatively few headaches.
