So it's safe to say that whatever I watch on this TV will leave a burn in?

I have a 2 yr old 20" Polaroid LCD HDTV(home office), 2 month old Samsung 40" LCD HDTV (bedroom set), and 6 month old LG Plasma 50" HDTV (living room set). The Polaroid was my first panel/HDTV set and I have to say that I am sastified with its pic/value/quality(paid $400 no rebate 2 yrs ago @ CC). I have less doubts about buying Polaroid tvs now. With the few amount of LCD/Plasma manufactuers its just a rebadged, so you should just go by reviews on the model instead of replying on brands.

Anyone have any feelings on the "life span" of plasma? I am undecided on how to go. I am looking for around 50", but the picture on Plasma look sooooo much sharper and brighter than comparably priced LCD.

this sounds like a good deal, particularly with its 8000-1 contrast ratio.

#16 - don't worry about the "life span" of plasma. Buy what you like, get yourself a good warranty, and hope for the best! With a good warranty, you will guarantee yourself your TV for 3-5 years... after that, you will want to upgrade anyway so there's no reason to worry about the life span.

#13 I searched ecost, but couldn't find any Maxent. Best Buy
shows one as their lowest cost 42" plasma for $1,079.99 but it
doesn't include a tuner. I like that this unit does, so you can
still use it w/o paying big monthly bucks to cable or satellite.
Anyone have an idea where 42" Plasma TV's are going to bottom out price wise? I'm guessing $900 is a good target price to watch for
a unit with a tuner in the near future.
Here's an example price graph on one low end model:
