Buy from Philips Outlet at great risk.

I bought a small 13" TV/VCR combo from them about a year ago. While I understand the concept of "Factory Renewed", I expect that having bad discoloration in the screen is not "renewed"... and that I would be sent the correct remote (they sent a remote for a TV/DVD unit!!).

This started the customer service nightmare. I was actually told at one point that all items sold on the Outlet store was sold "AS IS"!... which is ridiculous since the consumer never gets to see the actual item to be purchased.

I had to return the unit (at my own expense) to their warranty center as a warranty claim when clearly they didn't get my order right in the first place.

So buy from Philips Outlet at great risk. The unit I bought didn't cost a whole lot, so managed to get out of the whole affair only having blown about $80... I would NEVER consider risking this much on them. Have better places I can spend a grand.

From all the reviews I've read on here, I've steered clear of Philips Outlet products.

My friend purchased and received this plasma about a week ago... and while I'll say that I'm still leery of it being a refurb, it's a great looking screen with no problems so far.

But to each their own. $950 Russian roulette. I'd rather fork over 500 more dollars for peace of mind and a 1 yr factory warranty.

#5 must have made his decision based on the quality of #2's review. I know I'm only responding since I'm laughing at #4's response. We'll have to wait and see what the next number says.... Probably that refurbs suck for this much $$$ when you can't see what you're buying before you buy it and you cant give it back after. $1k grab bag at the jewerly store. Who needs that headache. In fact, this thing could be $500 and theres no way in hell im buying a .... (see #2)

How is 1024x768 a widescreen resolution? It seems to be a 4:3 aspect ratio.

I got the Philips HDTV. When I got it, I noticed the remote control had a cracked battery lid. But I was extremely happy because that must be the reason someone returned the stuff. Everything else worked just fine.

...all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of shit. That’s all it is.
Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time.
But for right now, for your sake, for your daughter’s sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality item from me.

This is a great TV and one heck of a deal at that! I have two of them and they both work great...good luck finding a better deal than this.

Do they ship extra pixels in case some of the originals are inoperative?

i would go with costco online too for a little more. 42inch plasmas can be had for around this price brand new with warranty.

It might be "one heck of a deal" IF it wasn't a refurbed and actually had a good warranty policy on them instead of "as is"

#10, I'm an australopithecus. You don't even understand what I'm saying then your brain must be the size of a peanut. The tv I got worked perfectly and I even have it calibrated. The remote control battery compartment lid was cracked, but I transferred every remote control codes to a learning remote, so I lost nothing. I assume it must be the reason it was returned. I took a gamble and it worked.

And even if something were to be wrong with it, I would have been able to get it replaced or refunded from Philips.

You can buy a LCD and it could come with dead pixels brand new. Refurb is what it is, you have to take more chances.

I purchased my main TV from here. No problems and it is on alot. Much of the time electronics have 1 issue in their life. It already occurred so most of the time you are OK

"Much of the time electronics have 1 issue in their life."

Where the Hell did you get that from, #18?!

I will never buy any TV from Philips again. My friend and I both had bad experiences.
