These cables can be outrageously expensive. This seems a good deal from a reputable store. I may do this myself even though I already have that cable (for my homebuilt HTPC to the HDTV).
Be aware these cables do NOT carry sound so you'll need alt sound in/outs to either device.

Or I could order a 10-Ft HDMI Male to DVI Male Gold Plated Cable with Ferrite Cores for a little less ($5.74 + $4.05 ship) $9.79 from Monoprice!

#3 Yeah you can but remember that most HDTVs native resolution will be 1366x768. Finding a similar one from the computer might distort picture slightly depending on the characteristics of your TV.

You can get this cable at Monoprice.com for $1.93 + shipping.

I'm not paying any amount of money for Male on Male action. #1, where did you see prices for small asian females? All the ones I've found are pretty spendy.

I recently paid over $100 for mine, granted it was "monster" but what make this so cheap, or in my case so "expensive"?

Wow great find for the LCD I have. I got a cheap Westinghouse 30" LCD for the bedroom on clearance from BB and it has every connection but an HDMI. BTW after playing with the colors for a bit the Westinghouse looks spectacular, regardless of the brand it is. DVDs play wonderfully through the component cables.

No you can't! Rolling Eyes
The DVI/HDMI cable for $1.93 at Monoprice is only a 3-Ft cable.

It's a DIGITAL cable. As long as the cable meets basic DVI electrical requirements, the equipment you connect it to is also up to par, and you aren't pushing the specs (running >5 meters), a $5 cable will do exactly the same job as a $100 one.

Best Buy and their ilk make most of their profit by convincing customers to buy unnecessary and/or ridiculously priced accessories.

whats the diff between gold plated and ferrite cores?
#15   bonedawg109 - Posted 9:09 am PST 12/15/06 (17 Posts)
Ferrite cores are actually on the outside of the cable (those nuggest that you find at the ends of the calbes sometimes). It's called a choke. A choke makes a BAD antenna... which is how you DON'T want your video cables acting, soaking up a whole buncha noise from interferance.

Gold plated just helps with conduction & resists corrosion.
