Not a good idea! I own several 8 or 10X monoculars and they're very difficult to hold still enough to see. This monocular starts at 15X and it has a small objective lens besides. PASS.

If you are looking for a better quality scope (excellent optics, smooth mechanics), check out ebay for "Swift Scope", specifically for model 706. It is not as small as this monocular (no "compact" in its name), and they will be used, but you can't find a better deal on a *good* small scope.
And as @Hermit noted - these things can be difficult to use at higher magnifications. I find it easiest when using a tripod or simply have something (rail, tree) to lean my arm on.
