Keep away from these unless you want potential future problems. I see so many people writing reviews at CC and everywhere that give it days-couple weeks. 6 months to a year of steady usage is time for better feedback. The current/future of these is solid state with removable memory cards and or hard-drive bases which also accomodate memory cards. They have had numerous problems with these disc based units. Think about it. More moving parts, more problems. The only thing moving on these things should be the motor zoom for the optical lens. Since we now have high speed large gig memory cards which are affordable, it's a no brainer.

I have a sony for 1.5 yrs - it has survived 2 international and 3 US trips well. I do not have to transfer anything to / from hard discs. Only problem is that disc takes only 20 min videos - so get plenty of them. They are cheap at SAMs.
