Go to overstock.com for titanium rings. They'll cost a little more but they're lighter and stronger. They also have carbide and tungsten rings. I don't want to spend a fortune for something gold/platinum and soft and very likely to get lost.

Yeah, because something forceful enough to smash the ring wouldn't crush the finger. If it's worth wearing it's worth 24k gold. You won't look pretty enough any other way.
