Meritline has the 2.5" External Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure SATA to USB for $4 with free shipping. Turn an extra 2.5" notebook hard drive into a portable external drive for more storage space.
Agreed, but it uses a non-standard cable. I really prefer the mini USB male connector to go into the drive, so I can use it with other devices if necessary.
It uses two *tiny* screws to hold the SATA connector to the drive case, and you do not want to construct or tinker with this in low-light or in an area where you might not be able to find that tiny screw after you drop it because you're a clutz like somebody I know, but mine too has worked just fine.
#4, I understand the need for the 2 connectors that go into the computer. If your drive uses more than 500ma, you need extra power. But all the external hard drives I've seen use a miniusb connector in the drive, and 2 USB A male connetors, one for power and signal and the other for extra power. It' the USB A male connector to the drive that I don't like, because the cable is not usable on other external drives, or some of the many devices that can be charged with a USB cable.
I actually bought one of these a few months ago. Worked fine with no problems.
me too.
it works flawless.

Nonstandard cable is superior if you have a Netbook that does not supply enough power to the USB ports.
