Costco has the Life+Gear LED WaterProof Flashlight, 2-pack for $80 with free shipping. Features 360 lumens from 3 Cree LED bulbs, aircraft grade aluminum, and 3 modes of operation.
These put out a ton of light for the money. Yes you can pck up a $10 flashlight but then you have to wonder if it will work when you need it and can you get buy with a dim light. With LED lights you also have to consider heat dissipation. High output lights put out a ton of heat and that heat has to go someplace - like your hand.
Right, most flashlights (even cheapo's) are waterproof, so don't go thinking that makes these flashlights worth spending more on. Head over to dealextreme.com and you will probably find a better, brighter, and smaller flashlight for 1/2 of the price.
I got the 2 C 120 lumen version at Target for clearance price of $8.72 a few months ago. Not too bad, very bright, thin walled aluminum, I'd buy another for around $10, but not much more than that.
Granted they don't use 3 x C cells, most people don't seem to like 3 x C cell lights unless they were already stocking a bunch of C alkalines because their other emergency gear happened to use C cells.
These Life+Gear, it's hard to tell if they are any good since people have such varying ideas about good construction, but I tend to think they are medium-grade at best since they use BS marketing terms like "aircraft grade" and "law enforcement grade" but conspicuously missing is the real spec enlightened people would look for in a $80 light set - HA-III anodization.
Further, people who reviewed them and owned major brand lights with known accurate lumen ratings report that these are dimmer than ~200 lumen and higher lights which would make sense given their claim that it has 10 hour runtime on high from 3 x C cells meaning the LED drive current would average less than 600mA. A Cree XP-E R2 bin at 600mA is only 177 lumens!
... so the only semi-redeeming thing I see for the price is the polycarbonate reflector being shatterproof (metal would have been better and helped as a heatsink surface), though I concede you can pay even more for same specs from major brands, the real deals these days are weeding out the junk Chinese lights and buying the better ones on http://www.dealextreme.com or http://www.kaidomain.com
If there were decent cost-effective LSD NiMH C-cell sized batteries I might change my tune, though it would tend to cost at least $30 more for three of those and a fair quality charger so I have to feel the optimal NiMH solution for a light too big to pocket carry would be 4 or 6 x AA Eneloops.
Are they gold-plated at very least for this price?
these supposedly retail for 80 EACH! but why not just stick with a mag lite

they make led mag lites that are the same as or better output as these.

where on dx do you find a 360 lumens flashlight with cree led for less than $40? ($80 / 2). Tell me.
The 360 lumens may be a stretch for these based on user reviews, but the price is good compared to other flashlights with similar specs.
#7, there are several with similar light output on this and the following pages:
