Would have bought, but the nearly $18 tax spoils the deal for me

#2 one reason to have multiple drives is that all your eggs are not in one basket.

.11s seem terrible. I made a RAID 5 array out of 4 of their 500GBs. Had to RMA two of them the first month and I'm waiting for more failures. Those weren't firmware failures either as many people seem to be experiencing. I'd go with another brand...

#4, #2 did not say that everyone should get one drive instead of two

Anyone that's been buying these drives been having any trouble from them? I've been holding off on pulling the trigger on these because of all the trouble ppl have been reporting about them.

Seagate lost my business when they were "less than honest" about issues last fall with their 1TB drives.

I WAS a loyal Seagate buyer over all other brands before that time.

It will take Seagate many, many years before I'll go back. Trust is important.

#7, #6 is saying that #2 never said anything about the fewer drives thing being good for everyone, in fact, he said "for those who need storage with fewer drives" if you don't need storage with fewer drives, then go on your merry way, but for those that only have one SATA port or HDD spot left, you can get the 2TB.

I second #10's sentiments. Avoid Seagate until they prove they can make reliable drives again.
If you continue to buy Seagate drives it send them the message that they can keep turning out crap and people will still buy it.

    Agree with #12.

#10 makes a lot of sense ... though it probably won't take me "many, many" years to go back to Seagate -- just many, many positive reviews of their latest drives.

the drive I received is working fine. Don't know if it'll last to the warranty date, but regardless, it isn't DOA and the SMART scan turned up negative on issues.

I have also held Seagate in high regard in the past. Everyone turns out a dud occasionally. As long as they stand behind it no harm no foul. It is a good idea to not be an early adopter until a track record is established on a new product. If the .12's turn out to be great I would still buy one regardless of the .11 issues.
