Seagate needs to have their hands slapped for turning out crap.
I'm not having anything to do with their 7200.11 drives even if they've fixed the problems.
#21 - You need to have your hands slapped for spewing that crap.
these drives are top of the line.
#11 these drives burned down my house and spread to my neighbors house...burnt to crisp. The fire kept going till it lit up the whole neighborhood. Unbelievable...just love these drives.
#7, was that the filter talking?
a guy at work bought one of these hard drives. ten years later, BAM herpes.
Not bad deal - not the best drives...
Oh boy, a HAND SLAP. Can we send them to the corner and put a dunce cap on 'em too?
Can I SLAM this in my notebook for a "precious bounty"?
Got 2 of these drives a couple weeks ago and haven't had any problems. I'm running Linux and haven't had any issues with freezing or anything.
How many people can vouch that the so called problem as experienced around Nov/Dec 2008 is resolved with the firmware CC1H?. I read thru so many reviews on here, amazon.com and newegg.com, that people, on one hand, swear that the problem is solved and while, on the other hand, people insist that nothing has changed.
I would like to find out whether the issue has been really solved?
Both of my Seagates leaked lubricant. I couldn't believe it. Oil all over the bottom of the case. I'm going to try to revive them with KY jelly.. There's nothing worse than a dry drive.
i got the 500GB version of the .11 series and it's been running nice and quiet and fast for 4 months... it had the latest firmware DE13.
#31, check Seagates' website... they have a tool to figure out if your drive/firmware is good or not and can be updated.
i prefer caviar black
#29, with the right hammer anything is possible.
I would like to find out whether the issue has been really solved?
It's really solved.
However, for large capacity drives you are better off getting the current generation from Seagate or Samsung (F2), etc, so you get 500GB platters instead of slightly over 350GB, as the larger number of platters don't bode well for noise, power, lifespan.
Current sweet spot is probably 3 x Seagate LP 1TB in a RAID5 array = 2TB of redundant storage for about $255 delivered at regular price, less if they go on sale. Their lower RPM increases latency a bit but still good for bulk storage and about 100MB/s throughput thanks to the higher density 500GB platters.
