I would be careful when buying anything from Batteries.com.

    1. Their batteries are junk and don't last long
    2. About a year ago I got a letter from them that someone had hacked into their system and had stolen a bunch of account information including credit cards.

    Just an FYI

They shipped half of my order but billed me for the whole thing. I had to make several calls to them to get them to ship the balance, then they billed me a second time. Will never do business with them again.

Credit card number stolen when used at Batteries.com, never given a heads up, apology, or responded to emails. Customer service is the worst.

Was a customer 2 yrs ago, bought a load of assorted 300 batteries.

    - Just over 6 months, quite a few of those started leaking and damaged quite a few of my appliances. I had to throw the rest of the load away.
    - Received a mail from them saying my credit card might be stolen. Yup, it was, got hit with several bills totaled $6500.

Don't think I ever want to deal with them again. Batteries are bad, service is bad, and credit card info get stolen.

My thanks to all who posted above. I was attracted by the price and was on the road to buying 4 UPS batteries when I read your posts and changed my mind.

s We have a Batteries+ store in town that stocks Werker and Powersonic brands. The clerk on the phone recommended Werker "because they are made for UPS application".
    The batteries.com one I need they price at $20 -Ben's 20%.
Batteries+ Werker brand is $29.69 on-line, store is $32 but clerk says they will price-match their on-line ad. Don't know sales tax situation with Batteries.com but I will pay 6% sales tax in Batteries+ store.
    I believe that I have over-analyzed this <grin>

Again, thanks for the comments and keeping me from a BIG mistake.

If you buy name brand (versus their batteries.com generics) you should be okay. Using a one-time number generated by your credit card company should keep you from getting ripped off.

But I agree, their generic batteries are garbage.

I bought a ~50-pack of AA batteries about a year ago. Recently, I threw the whole remainder of the pack away. They started lasting for about 2 weeks in my wireless mouse (typically gets ~3 months of battery life), and finally one ruptured and leaked all over the mouse.

And, of course, the aforementioned credit card SNAFU where Bank of America cancelled my card and issued me a new one.

Regardless of the off-topic ramblings, would someone please tell me if their batteries or service is any good?

#6, so long as the battery connector matches your UPS, (and of course the form-factor so it physically fits inside), there's nothing particularly unique about the standard sealed SLA batteries versus one claimed to be especially made for UPS.

However, those claiming a higher amper-hour capacity in the same size, tend to use more porous plates inside so they do not hold up as well to deep discharge. Not a problem if you set the UPS to turn off ASAP, just a graceful shutdown. More of a problem if you try to use the system till you are forced to shut down.

You can usually get some of the most common batteries like a 12V, (7AH-8AH locally for about $20), or a bit less on sale but check the date codes on sale batteries, if the store does not top them off while in their possession then reject any that sat around for a year or more after manufacture. Same goes for buying old UPS models, avoid doing it if you can so your battery hasn't shelf rotted.

I was about to try this, good thing I read your comments before clicking. It was an attracting deal, but after reading this thread I won't waste my time trying it. [image]
