Performance Bike has the 2010 GT Windstream Comfort Bike on sale for $220 + $61 shipping = $281 shipped. Features Streamline chromoly fork, 3-piece alloy cranks, belt-driven drivetrain, single speed, Tektro V-brakes, and alloy hubs and rims.
Looks like something you'd keep at your vacation resort for patrons' use due to relaxed riding position, simplicity in use with a single speed, and lower maintenance (chain issues) with its belt drive.
^ For $220 you'd be better off without the gears or putting a bike through the abuse of a mountain, both would end up problematic and require maintenance or expense to fix.
$220 would get something minimally acceptable in a MTB on the used market, around $350 and up (on sale) new if you aren't picky at all.
This bike is meant for casual street riding, big difference.

But $220? What a rip off. No gears... Fewer components, same price as a mountain bike or a ruggend bmx bike. Lame
