how is 1and1? Their offers look fantastic but are they like yahoo - keeping your domain so its impossible to transfer? are they easy to work with? anyone have any experience that can offer advice?

Used one and one for 4 years now. Problems in the early days, but I'm happy now. Always up, fast and customer service can be reached with real help.

Regarding this deal:

You have to select their deluxe package when you start the checkout process, which includes business registration and private registration. Once you get that into your cart, you have to remove business registration (this is an extra "feature" for them putting you in a business whois listing). It will list the price of the private registration but will not include it in the total price in the invoice. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you can add a renewal to your order, then add bacon domains and get free private registration on the renewal... that would be nice.

Also take note that bacon domains are $0.99 for the first year only... it says "$0.99/yr, save $9" what they mean by that is "$0.99/yr for the first year, save $9 for that one year, subsequent years are $9.99."

If you have problems, it seems like the reps are more than happy to help you remove the registrations and subscriptions and refund you.

Wow... bacon filter on a top level domain... annoying... replace bacon in post #4 with:
info
i n f o
i-n-f-o
inf0

Hopefully at least one will get through.

Service from GoDaddy, my present registrar, is very good. However I am getting annoyed by their frequent spam blasts and offers of discounts that are limited new customers. Plus 1and1 seems to also be reliable and plain old cheaper.

So I will consider switching to 1and1 for my next renewal- cheaper and more for the cheaper price. And to quit subsidizing the big loud jerk who runs the company.

Does anyone know of any reason not to switch? Does 1and1 have any disadvantages (aside from not putting a halftime playboy ad from the big D_ckh__d in the Superbowl)? Tnx for the input.
