Even if you bought a warranty from a third party, this would still be a good deal. I bought a refurbed 42" plasma from Philips Outlet w/free shipping. I later decided I didn't want it, and they had some guy come pick it up from me and take it back. They refunded all my money and even paid for the return shipping. I was very impressed. So I can't bash Philips Outlet as is the custom around here.

Thank you #1 and #2. As I've told all of you long ago, Philips refurbs are the way to go.

#1 Where did you get your warranty at?
I know that this TV is great since I have the 42 inch version that I bought for about $1800 a year a go. $1000 for the 50 inch version is a steal.

Yeah this is a deal - too bad its not the ambilight version. Either way, my experience with Philips for my 42" Plasma has been nothing but top notch.
...and here I paid 3300 for it 3 years ago, damn my obsession with new technology.

I'm very tempted but not without a 'cast iron' warranty, is it possible to now buy one from Philips? If not any recommendations for one from a third party?
Is it possible to easily know the number of hours a Plasma has been used for? For example a timer in the menu.

LCD vs Plasma? Hmmm, I never thought to compare the two. Perhaps one day someone will invent some way to search the web and we'll be able to find answers to questions like these.

Just found these warranty prices from Philips
http://www.employeestore.philips.com/b2c_redesign/b2c/catalogForward.do?catalogEntry=true&shop=PHILIPSCE
Register and go to Large Screen Flat TV for prices.
Is having Ambilight a decisive factor?
Thanks for the link #13 ..... more consructive than #9's sarcastic comments.

At #14's "Is having Ambilight a decisive factor?"
For me it really is, I know you are buying a TV for the picture but if you like the sexy and sleek look of a flat panel TV, consider the ambilight feature icing on the cake. 4 people have bought a Philips or even my exact TV since I bought mine and its mainly because they wanted a flat panel TV but fell in love with the ambilight. To this day I still like the feature and the novelty hasn't worn off the wow factor even though my plasma is from 2004.

#16's brilliantly worded post: ambilight is a fucking retarded gimmic that is there only to distract you from the fact that the fucking piece of shit plasma is lacking in the important areas that really fuckin count. Only a complete total fucking moron falls for ambilight bullshit. Also, cable card slot if fucking retarded too. Fuck you and your fucking gimmicy h0m0 tv's.
