#1, I have one from a special here a few weeks back. They are, at best, a good auxiliary flashlight to wear if you are spelunking. Otherwise, these are mostly useless and don't have much distance in total darkness.

Is spelunking a fancy word for muff diving? Because these are good for that.

As cool as these look while wearing them, doubt you would get a chance to use them for the purpose #5 intends.

These are best used for handyman projects when you need some additional light. As #3 states, they don't have much range, but they provide good lighting for close work.

There are a good deal of variety in quality of headlamps -

I've personally got a decent energizer one, and several fairly crappy "Huffy" ones I got at Home Depot (The Huffy ones were in a pack together.)

If you want one you'd use outdoors, I'd suggest getting one at least 3 watts

    One like this http://www.amazon.com/Rayovac-Highbeam-Flashlight-Luxeon-Headlight/dp/B000OSHJ98/ref=pd_sbs_hpc_title_2

There are more expensive ones out there too, but I personally haven't tried any of them, and frankly doubt they're worth that much.

Agreed that these are excellent for handywork, working on your car etc. But as for hiking, not really unless you're an amateur or are on easy trails.
