Got the C310x with the extra kicker/coupon earlier this month at CC for $180 w/free shipping. Works great--turn-by-turn. Maps are a couple years old so new streets in my rural area aren't shown. SD not tested, but should allow updates to other maps: search for hacks. Car mount is clunky, but great reception holds signal anywhere in car, even lying on console below dash. Fits in pocket and ought to be good for touring unfamiliar cities.

Amen to all the above.
Price matched to Staples from CPUSA for $150.
First GPS. I'd love to try other GPS units. I can't imagine they would be any better than the MIO. Great unit.

Agreed. I tried the C310x and did not like the directions it provided. It was responsive enough (the touchscreen that is) but the maps were dated. Returned it and got a Nuvi 350. The directions it provided are perfect and the street names being pronounced make a huge difference. The internal Points Of Interest (POI) is not perfect but mighty good. Glad I spent the extra $160. Picked up the Nuvi 350 for $360 at Cost Co.

I find it hard to believe the difference is SO drastic to justify this

I got my MIO C310X from CUSA anniversary for $150 + tax. Nicely built. Very Portable. Map will get you where you want to go but not the best route. I tried it from Fremont, CA to Daly City, CA last night and it wants me to use I-80 (Bay Bridge) thru San Francisco while Dumbarton or San Mateo Bridge is better (in terms of traffic and distance) I have a Lexus Navigation, and ipaq pda with IGuidance 3.1 software (navteq maps) to compare with. Both give the right route to and from these places. Anyway, it's hackable so I installed IGuidance in it, and is currently my default Navi. MioMap is still there for backup and POIs on MIO are better than Iguidance. Very fast Satellite Aquisition BTW. Sound is very audible. I installed 2 GB 150 SD card and works perfectly, i'll try 4 GB. We'll see....Mio uses TeleAtlas maps.
The SirfIII chipset is amazing. It will get Sat Info indoors w/ curtains closed. Unbelievable.
If you're looking for your first GPS navigation system, this is a good deal, very cheap and functional, portable and very good interface.
Question for Californians:
It comes with suction mount on windshield, I'm hesitant to use it cause it I might get pulled over. Isn't there a law againts anything on the windshield?

It may work with Velcro attached to the dash.
there is a setting that lets you choose your
Route Parameters:
click on MENU, HOUSE ICON bottom right of screen, (NOT Address)
OR push MENU button on right side of unit
then
TOOLS ICON top right of screen
Route ICON
Route Options
shortest route, fastest route, use paved roads only, toll roads, car, taxi, bus, truck, emergency vehicles, car pool, ect...
there's also a bunch of stuff in the other menus, Advanced, ect..
also note the UP/DOWN arrows on the right side of some menu screens
