As you may or may not know, Sony installed rootkits onto the computers of their own customers. Until they apologize for that, I think we should avoid any Sony products. (Although - with the quality of the garbage they release, I don't see that being a problem.)

I had a PSP and I returned it when Sony decided to install a rootkit on the machines of their own customers. I also didn't care for the way they sued lik-sang in an attempt to take away the right of resale from people. If Sony is allowed to get away with this garbage, you won't be able to have a garage sale. Do you know why?
It's obvious. Sony sued lik-sang because lik-sang resold Sony products when Sony didn't want them to. Maybe Sony doesn't want you to resell that PSP of yours. Maybe they'd rather people bought new PSPs. Yes, Sony is a terrible company. Don't give them your money folks.

Also, for those of you who are playing ISOs, make sure don't go to ebay and buy those FAKE SONY HIGH SPEED MEMORY STICKs.
You can look at the picture and they are so poorly made. Most of the time the memory stick won't work or display correct memory size by cheating the Operating System.

I vowed to never buy Sony or support them after everything Sony I owned in junior high all broke on me... my TV, walkman, discman, 3 boomboxes, cassette recorder... they make cheap crap and they don't give a f*ck about the customer (YOU). Plus the PSP isn't even that cool... crappy storage and battery life. Just buy a Nintendo DS (a company that DOES care) and just get the Supercard and Superpass and run whatever you want on it.... it can play mp3s, movies, emulated games, plus the battery life is incredible.
SUPPORT GOOD COMPANIES, BOYCOTT SONY.

"Here's the thing folks, I bought one of these over a year ago. It was pretty slick and I enjoyed looking at it. I bought Virtua Tennis and the GTA game and they were okay. I didn't really care for the little nub that servers as the analog stick but I dealt with it. Then, I lost interest. It sat somewhere in my house for months and months without being used. So, ultimately, I traded it in for a 360. You should carefully evaluate how much use you'll actually get out of one of these and whether or not you want to support a terrible company like Sony.

#10: Check my original statement and compare it to one in this discussion. I had multiple reasons for returning my PSP. In the context of the point I was making here - it was because Sony is a terrible company (which I stated in my previous post). In the context of evaluating the PSP as a purchase, it was because the thing is a piece of garbage.

I'm with toddsucks on this one. I don't like Sony, but I've got a PSP and I've got ver 1.5 firmware, so I'm pretty much sticking it to them anyway.
Keep kickin' ass toddsucks.

you sure it's not some weird counterfeit PSP that just looks like a PSP with none of the internals?

You don't stick it to Sony by buying a PSP, even if you later switch to another platform. They already have your money.
You stick it to them by buying a GP2X. That system is designed from the ground up to use open source software. It's a lot nicer than having to fight with the manufacturer over what you're allowed to run on a product that you own.
The GP2X uses SD cards for memory. It's a lot cheaper than memory sticks, and there's none of that UMD stuff.
There's plenty of software available for it, as well. I do own a Nintendo DS, but only have about 3 games for it because of the expense. I have several thousand games (directly written, commercial, or emulations) on the GP2X. The GP2X is more powerful than the DS as well, so it's better than even a DS with a SuperCard. (It's designed from the ground up to play movies, play games, read ebooks, etc.) In fact, if you add a breakout box (sold by the manufacturer, not a hack), you can add a keyboard, monitor, mouse, and the whole thing becomes a full-fledged Linux computer.

Come to think of it, this Sony product is refurbished. I think Sony already made their money on it.
