psps definitely still lack a decent game library... but for the same price as a ds, maybe?

I got one of these last week. They are definately "used" units with lots of scratches although the screen was fine. It says "Manufacturer Recertified" but it's not by Sony. There is nothing in the box except for the unit, the power supply and a small slip of paper (hand cut with scissors) indicating there is a 60 day warranty but not from Sony. If I had to do it over again I would get a new one from CC with a $15 off $150 coupon.

yeah but you get what you pay for. Psp's are fantastic- I get to take my 4gb card and fill it with movies, music and pictures. Oh yeah, and play games (only 3 good ones out there IMHO)- wifi is not bad, and one day if i get a playstation 3- i can use it with that.

As far as the scratches and used look- there are tons of places online that will sell you a new screen and actual psp frames. I was looking at a clear one myself. All in all , not a bad price compared to a ds- even though you're not comparing apples to apples.

how are you NOT comparing apples to apples?! Both DS and PSP are handheld gaming consoles that are competing in the same market. I mean in order to qualify what you're saying, Nintendo would have to make PSP and Sony would have to make DS in order to make this comparison!

When it comes to features and what the device can actually do. PSP spanks the DS. I have both the PSP and the DS lite. My wife likes the DS for Mario and my kid and I like the PSP for GTA series. Many will say that the DS has games that are more "fun". But with the cost of the psp dropping to within reach of DS. If you don't have either one yet and you are not buying the unit for a kid. Get the PSP. It is a multimedia powerhouse. Even if you install the latest updates and don't deal with home brew and the like.

Have to agree with buying new versus secondhand refurbs that are not SONY. But if the deal nets you one under $100. OEM face plates and parts are so cheap, that it might be worth the risk.

What do you use for converting mpg's? I tried using PSP 9 to convert an mpg created from ReplayTV (via DVArchive) but it wouldn't play on the PSP. Is there anything better to use than PSP 9? tia

Crappiest refurb ever, the more I use it the more pissed I am. scratches on plastics, PSP emblem on the back was banged up, case was not put back together properly and coming apart. Using it yesterday I noticed fingerprints...UNDERNEATH the cover ON the LCD. If calling these twits doesn't get it replaced, they've lost any of my business in the future.
