You can do a lot better with a Reward Checking account. There are many that are available nationwide, and even more that are around locally. I have one I got back in April that has a guaranteed rate of 6.02% thru next april. No minimum balance, and it works just like a regular checking account. A good place to start is here: http://www.highyieldcheckingdeals.com/

I signed up for one of these accounts to link to my PayPal account, since my regular bank won't let me link to PayPal.

I've been using an HSBC account for a couple of years now and haven't had any problems with it. Free bank to bank transfers to my local checking account whenever I need to get to my money makes it fairly easy to use.

HSBC sent me a check for $0.43. Are these the kind of wasteful people you want to vote for with your dollars?!?

Please do a google (or your favorite site) search on this bank - they have had multiple data center outages of ridiculous length for a bank.

Any bank that has this kind of issue just keeping systems running is not someplace that I would entrust my personal information and/or finances.

DollarSavingsDirect.com has 4.00% APY. It's essentially the 100% online version of EmigrantDirect.com... which I found confusing because I had thought that EmigrantDirect.com WAS 100% online. Go figure...

One of the worst banks... terrible customer service, made the mistake of staying a customer for 7 years.

Best part was when they credited me only 2500 when I deposited a $25,000 check, it only took 6 weeks to correct.

I use Countrywide Bank. 3.15% with a $10,000 minimum. I also use Emigrant Direct. 3% with no minimum. Virtual Bank has rates starting at 3% with $10,000 minimum (3.5% with $100,000). I spread my money around. You never know which bank is going to fail next.

Wells Fargo gives 3.10% so 3% is theoretically the lowest on this thread..

I'll only say this. Bank small. This world can no longer afford banking with giants merely because they are convenient to go to ATM machines. I'll say it again, bank with someone smaller and local. It is a responsibility we have to ourselves, each other and the world at large. Its just getting crazy how much power we allow them to have. Did you read the above posts? How to you mistake 2500 for 25000? And if you have a great customer like that, how do you let it take more than 6 minutes to fix- 6 weeks? Not at my bank. If you have $10k dollars in a checking account, purchase some land.

Yes #15, cause land is always a reliable and secure investment. Its also highly liquid, when you or your business needs ready access to cash.

A better deal is with Schwab bank. They offer 3% on any money in your checking account and all ATM fees are reversed no matter what bank you use in the states or overseas. You can also trade stocks with them as well.

I've used HSBC for years and I have no problems with it. The bank to bank transfers, with no fees, are very convenient. You can transfer the money back to your back anytime. Might be a pain in the ass if you want the money asap though. Takes a 3-5 business days to completely transfer the money. It's better than leaving it in your bofa or wamu savings account. I rather receive a few bucks than a few cents.

I'm getting 3.4% on a Countrywide Bank savings account currently. Of course, it was 5.3% when I opened it 10 months ago. Stupid Bernanke...
