Having just gone to Banana Republic, I'm not sure why this is even listed as a deal. I went into a Banana Republic with my girlfriend who had a 30% off coupon and saw the price of a shirt she was looking at. $70 for a shirt that was probably not worth more than $20. %30 off there just doesn't do the store's prices the major correction that is needed.

Well you're obviously clueless about clothing #1. Banana Republic's prices for the clothing you get are good value for money. If you compare it from a quality and value standpoint you'll likely not find anything comparable. Oh, and don't ever go to Europe looking for clothes if you think BR are robbing people blind.

The truth is that the coupon that #1's girlfriend had was a Friends and Family coupon. It was only good last weekend and it was good off anything you purchased (other than gift cards). On top of that, GAP Inc as a whole donated 5% of all purchases with those coupons to charities that the employees have chosen. In about a year the company has donated $7 million +. Oh, and for making a purchase last weekend #1's girlfriend likely got three 40% off coupons just like everybody else did.

As for this current deal that Ben has posted, you can also combine it with the store's credit card and save over 40% off select outerwear. I already have a card and the benefits of the card are great (like getting that 30% off coupon #1 is talking about). Just make sure you don't carry a balance on the card because the interest is high (though that's typical of store cards).

Speaking of differences between Americans and Europeans, the store's "Big and Tall" section only goes up to XXL. I guess fat people like me aren't a "big enough" market....
