That, and except for the ES line, Sony HT gear is poop. For the same dollars Yamaha or Denon are a much better choice.

You got lucky #4. You don't want to buy electronics from a media company.
Probably trying getting rid of old models to make room for new line of receivers that have HDMI 1.4 and are thus compatible with 3D HDTV's and 3D Bluray players.
