Must agree.

You must have pretty valuable PCMCIA cards, a careful shopper can usually get the PCI card functionality without having to adapt a PCMCIA card for the same cost.

How handy is "hotswapping" really, when it's a PCI card, so you'll have to reach around the back of your computer to do any "swapping."

seeing as half the desktops at home always have their case open...then one I'm using doesn't even have faceplate right now..bacon's not that inconvienent and if you have a laptop and a notebook and already have plenty of pcmcia cards then they double up and save you some money.

It's only the dorks like you running with their cases off. A super dork like myself puts all the covers on because it's less of a hassle to dust. And end users mostly can't even tell what the actual computer is - they sometimes bring in the monitor thinking that's it. If you asked them to remove the cover on the computer, they'd have a fit, and then dissamble the DVD player or something.

or they'd try to make toast in their cd-rom drive because it has a laser.

These are great if you have a cellular data card and want to use it on a desktop without a lot of hassles.

Anyone know if the reverse of this exists? PCI to PCMCIA to let me use my PCI cards on a laptop?
#13   illegalsmile - Posted 9:57 pm PDT 07/17/07 (307 Posts)

#12, it absolutely exists if you want to drop $1000 for it: http://sewelldirect.com/pcmcia-to-pci-1-slot.asp

#18   illegalsmile - Posted 5:26 am PDT 07/18/07 (307 Posts)
seriously, like anyone on bensbargains.net, ESPECIALLY #12, is going to buy a $1000 pci->pcmcia adapter.

#12, try Magma.com for all the options. You can sprout PCI slots out of CardBus slots, PCI slots, PCIe slots...

#6 has apparently never heard of an air filter.

But then he probably doesn't have a lab with six computers in it, either. Some have their cases on, some off, some on but not screwed down. Depends.

#8, you're right - but then, this is a geeky product.
