Amazon has the 4-count Duracell Rechargeables StayCharged AAA NiMH Batteries for $9.20 - 5% off with Subscribe & Save (can cancel at any time) - $3 off coupon (click "Clip this coupon") = $5.74 with free shipping.
Whenever a gadget runs your rechargables dead early, check if there's one cell that ran out way ahead of the others. With these fairly cheap rechargables, there's a lot of variety as to what you get. After you throw away the 20% runts, a collection of cheap cells is much more manageable.
The Sanyo Eneloop and Maha Powerex batteries are the fancy stuff. They will hold a charge for several years (try your cheap cells in half a year), and they don't sell sh-- cells by the seashore.
That is very true. I have always had bad luck with Duracell, but my digital charger will consistently show the required charging level for each battery as being uneven. You get a clear picture of which are bad. Although none of my Duracells lasted more than 20 charges.
