Blockbuster is offering a free 4 week trial of their online rental service with coupon code erewards1mspecial. Click on "Have a Promotional Code?" to enter code. Receive 3 DVDs at a time plus unlimited in-store exchanges. It's $35/month after the trial period; or select another plan from $12/month.
Started the trial during winter break, what a terrible service, got only 9 dvds during the month long trial.
It used to be very good, but a couple years ago, it went to hell just like the brick and mortar part of the business did. Netflix is really the only decent player in town these days.
I signed up for this trial a few months ago and had a pretty crappy experience as well. I received the wrong disc 3 times in a row and then they just removed the movie from my queue because they were "unable to properly fulfill my request". I canceled the trail after about 2 weeks.
do they stream ,like with a roku devices ?
#4, Blockbuster offers On Demand streaming to computers, certain brands of dvd/blue ray players and mobile devices. It's not like Netflix streaming where you pay a monthly and get all the streaming you want. It's basically a pay-per-view/online rental service. You pay $2-$4 to "rent" an online movie or pay a higher price to buy a digital copy of it.
In my opinion it's a horrible service. The "watch all you want" for a monthly price is why Netflix is doing so well.
Here are the plans both companies offer, if anyone was curious:
Netflix:
$7.99 - Instant Watch only
$9.99 - 1 DVD at a time + IW
$14.99 - 2 DVD + IW
$19.99 - 3 DVD + IW
$27.99 - 4 DVD + IW
+$3.00/month will give you Blu-ray renting access
Blockbuster:
$11.99 - 1 DVD/BD/GAME at a time + 5 in store exchanges
$16.99 - 2 + 5 in store
$19.99 - 3 + 5 in store
$34.99 - 3 + unlimited in store exchanges
Thanks, #6. I'm happy with Netflix but Gamefly can be iffy and slow. I might try BB for games.
I'm still under the $19.99 at Blockbuster for 3 at a time plus unlimited exchanges plus one free game coupon per month. So until they change that, I'm staying.
There's a reason Blockbuster is going bankrupt: they suck!
Also on Netflix there's a little known $4.99 plan.
Maximum of 2 DVD's per month and 2 hours of watch instantly. But you can't watch on your Wii, and Starz isn't available.
Had BB for a long time now - the game rental for xbox/ps3 is awesome and discs ship as fast as you can watch them and turn them in. Need a movie faster? no problem, take the mail envelope to the store and swap it out for an in-store movie. Soon as you turn in the in-store movie, the next envelope is shipped out. Whats with all the hate? There's room for 2 businesses in this niche, and believe me, you want competition.
