I apologize for being gauche, but there is too much profit built into these shirts and ties. $95 for a tie (an UGLY tie)? $200 for 3 shirts? I suppose if you have a trust fund or are making $400,000 per year, and need a dress code to identify other trust fund or highly compensated individuals who also lack any asthetic sense, then this stuff is for you.

Here are some great shirts, and even the Big Apple folks can get them via online shopping:

I take it you've never actually seen or worn nice shirts, have you?

There's a definite improvement in the quality of construction, from stitching to even the fabric itself. This translates to the drape of the fabric on the wearer. Not only that, but nicer shirts come fitted properly, as in proper matchups of neck and sleeve measurements.

Properly ironed, at the start of the day, both shirts may look sharp when worn, but like a cheap suit, a cheap shirt will look disheveled by lunchtime, while a high quality shirt continues to look sharp past quitting time.

Obviously, if your job involves a name tag and a vest, save your cash. But, if you're a professional, looking sharp all day may be the difference between getting that raise and getting a promotion.
