I bought a WalMart bike in 1994 or so -- great bike (already assembled). Later bought a Trek 730 (hybrid) - great bike also, but some $700 more. So this might be heavier - are you doing time trials or riding for fun/exercise? Then I suppose a little extra weight won't hurt you, will it?
Never had someone try to steal my Trek. My WalMart bike got pinched after 3 weeks (thus the Trek purchase, with better locks).

Its not so much the weight, its the fact that these bikes have super cheapo components that are not at all smooth, comfortable, or reliable.

#3 agreed on weight(probably 30 lbs). It's just too much weight for my lady friend to be peddling up 'em hills.
