Grado has the reputation of having some of the best if not the best headphones ever made. These headphones are there entry level, designed for small audio devices (ipod, etc.) and work best for the home or office, as read from other reviewers. The only fault they have as told from others is that everyone in a 10 foot radius will know what your listening to and that you will pick up a lot of outside noise if your in a noisy environment. I think its because of there open air design that makes them such good headphones to begin with

Right on, #1.

These are great headphones, and the first "real" non-Best Buy pair that I bought. Loved the quality, but I had to buy a different pair simply because I couldn't study with these on at the library. Sound leaked like rusty faucet and everybody could hear my music.

They're now the pair I use at my PC.


Also, $69 is pretty much the regular price. Never seen these go on sale before - however, it's a great price considering the quality you'll be getting.

Sennheiser PX100s whoop the Grado SR60s for the following reasons:

They fold into a hardshell pocket case; they are very efficient and sound great with portables (not as good as my HD 600s through an e-mu pre-amp, but they are detailed, lively and full); they cost about half the price of these.

The Grados are the most overrated headphones ever. They're not bad, certainly on a par with a good set of Sonys, for instance, but they lack definition and accuracy. I bought a pair of SR80s years ago based on the hype and then compared them on the same music with a friend's Sennheisers. I was floored by all the detail the Grados obfuscated.
To add insult to injury, the Grados look like they were designed in the Soviet Union in the '50s, and they're very uncomfortable to wear. At home I use a HD600 like #6, and when traveling my favorite set is the Etymotic ER6i with the 3-flange plugs. They take close to no space and do a bang up job protecting you from airplane noise. The Grados have long been retired...

are these closed ear and OK as recording monitors?

SR60 are very good if use them in a quiet environment... like when you listen to a high-end stereo system. They really gives high end sound.

If you travel, try the Sennheiser PX100. They are almost as good as the SR60 but much small.

I own 2 pairs of SR60s and PX100.
