#4 - You must be talking about DirecTV.

why do HD channels cost more?
#8   channelv - Posted 4:46 pm PST 11/15/07 (1048 Posts)
because until the FTC date when all channels are required to go HD, they can and will charge more for HD stuff. Yes, it sucks. I HATE cable tv companies (and satellite tv companies too, but not quite as much hated as cable companies)

#8, there is no requirement that all channels go HD, there's a requirement that all broadcast channels broadcast in DIGITAL by February 2009. Digital is the transmission method (as opposed to analog); HD is the resolution, 720p or 1080i.

#1, I called them up a few days ago and asked and was shocked to hear you needed to sign up for 18 months. Then they have a crazy early termination fee. It was like 300 dollars straight up plus like 75 per each month that remained on the contract.

If it weren't for the long contract term and those insane early cancellation fees, i'd be all over this.

the key word of all those *free* is *or*

i think i'll pick *free installation* if i were to go for the deal

What is the difference between this offer and the one directly from Dish? Why would you buy from AllSat instead of Dish?

You can save $ with dish since many of their boxes can run 2 TVs at once while paying one receiver fee. I'm happy with dish but have never had direct so can't compare the two. The NFL thing is direct not dish. Cable sucks. Make sure you get a dual tuner DVR it's the best $5 a month you can spend. Watch what you want to watch when you want to watch it and bye bye commercials! Video nirvana.

Dish is a great alternative to cable until Fios blooms in your area, but this deal is more onerous than getting it directly from Dish Network.

I'd rather go with ATT if you have it in your area. You pay 50 dollars up front and you can cancel anytime. I got mine like 2 months ago and I was able to get free HD upgrade.
