I had the SR80. These are good, but ambient noise just ruins the experience. Unless you're sitting in a room with no ambient noise, the experience will be ruined.

these headphones are definitely for at-your-house, don't-wake-up-your-wife type use. of course, some labor under the idea that there is more to audio than the ipod.
im very happy with these headphones.

If you plan on using with an ipod, you'll hear how poorly ipods perform acoustically. Garbage in, garbage out applies

audiophile headphones, no doubt. highly recommended for good *home* systems (these aren't really portable, nor do they block out ambient noise).

the price of these headphones never drop, its a set price by the grado company I bet, the deal is that you don't pay tax or shipping.

Why is this headphone so expensive?

The audio is really good on these, and this is a decent price although not the best ever. #8, they are "expensive" because they sound significantly better than something you can find for $20.
One drawback though... they are aggresively snug - I have to take a break from wearing them each hour. Friends who also have them echo this sentiment. Also, the padding will fade in color and deteriorate over a few years to the point that it will start shedding in little bits all over your desk/shoulders. If that annoys you, stick to leather or similar material that degrades more slowly.
But these are good - solid cans for the price.

You can buy replacement ear pads for the Grados. I didn't like the donut shaped rings my SR80's came with so I replaced them with foam pads that cover the entire ear piece. This makes them much more comfortable for me.
Sound is excellent.

#9 says "not the best ever" but I say that if you get a panel of experienced audiophiles and give them any group of headphones with a maximum of $69 spent on each, *none* will be chosen as better than these.

If $70 is too much for you to spend on good quality sound, you might try the $35 Koss Porta Pro from Amazon.com:

Dunno why Ben always mentions the Grado SR60's at this same old price of $70 all the time, but never mentions the Koss Porta Pro at $35.

Good call #10 - thanks for the suggestion. I assumed bending it would screw it up / breadk it, but it's all good. And I agree #12, just saying that you can spend more and get super high quality cans, but these are very nice. I'm happy with them.
