Sales tax and shipping reduces the value of the deal. LG Philips is one of the three biggest LCD manufacturers (with Sharp & Samsung) outside of taiwan.

#11, I think the 1200:1 is contrast ratio, not resolution. And it is only dynamic contrast ratio, so it won't be that high all the times.
Samsung is pioneering the effort for its new generation of LED backlit LCD panels to turn off the individual LEDs according to the video so as to enhance the contrast ratio further. If that works well, we will see much higher contrast ratio in the near future and much darker blackness in LCD TV.

#13, I am sure the prices of all these new technologies will come down in time. They are so new now certainly prices are rather high. With all these new development, I think the plasma camp may be more concerned about future competition.
I am not the kind of people who would pay premium and buy the latest technology.

Why buy this large a TV for $300 more when the 42" has the better contrast ratio. Cotsco has the lowest price and they extend the warranty to 2 years, plus if you are not satisfied you can return the TV after 90 days. Worth the $50 membership.
