Emigrant Direct is currently offering great interest rates in their American Dream SavingsAccount. Open an account and you'll receive an interest rate of 5.05% APY with no fees and no minimums. FDIC Insured. They also redesigned their site in response to customer feedback.

site works great- has a slight edge over ING Direct which is why I moved over. Although, I've seen now that Washington Mutual has a savings account with 5% ... although 5% and 5.05% is pretty weak no matter which way you slice it

I don't like this being advertised here. Basically, if you open an account with these guys you'll be supporting emigrants, and they all smell. I've also emailed George W. Bush to ask him if this means you'll also be supporting terrorists and libsurgents as well. I'll let you all know what he says.

#7, are you trying to tell everyone that you've banked ~$50K with these guys? You've made a lot of baconers jealous of your wealth...

GMAC = General Motors thumbplum Corp. Think you need 50k or 100k minumim for that rate.

don't these guys change the rate often and then any money that is pulled out comes out of your higher interest rate money. And any money you put in goes to the lower rate, i'd be careful. well i'd stick to my wamu at 5%

I think I read somewhere about why all these online savings account offer much higher rates than regular bank accounts. If anyone has banked at ING Direct of HSBC, you'll notice that they hold your money for a few days when you make a deposit or withdrawal. During this hold, you don't earn any interest!

    Any thoughts?

yes there is a delay- but that is expected. you'd have to be dumping a crapload of money in there if you are worried about losing 3 days of interest at 5%.

I think if you want to be a successful troll, you should at least learn the difference between an immigrant and an emigrant.

I've been using amtrustdirect.com The rate is higher (5.36apy) and the minimum is $1 (after you deposit 1000), but the website is clunky. Had some nice conversations with the csrs in Ohio though.
