Buy.com has this Memorex DVD+R 8X Double Layer Media 8.5GB (1 x 50 Pack) Spindle for $30 + $0 shipping = $30 shipped. Even if you factor in the double capacity, the price/storage is still more than double that of single layer media. [Compare]

Agreed, price of DL needs to come down quite a bit to make it an alternative to SL media. Possibly good for less clutter in backups, but not something you would use everyday

I haven't had one coaster with my Memorex DL using them with my Pioneer drive. Long term I don't know if they will be reliable but we don't even know if the Verbatim's will last as long either.

The point of DL is not just for fewer backup discs. The advantage is when you make your own movies, you can fit either 2+ hours of DVD-quality video, or a decent amount of HD video, on a DL disc; a regular DVD+-R is, of course, can hold only half that.

Jesus christ, what burp moron buys this baconnaise? Any rodeo cowboy that buys this baconnaise deserves to lose all his burp data.

The latest batch is a different design from previous incarnations and so far after burning over 10 I have not had a problem. So maybe they have increased QC after so much bad publicity and returns. Lets hope so.

#5 do you have any real proof to back you claim up? All you can do is hope for the best when buying any media. I would like to see any CD-Rs that made this claim are still working after 10 years.

#10, I have CD-Rs that are about 10 years old that still work perfectly. I also have DVD-Rs that are about 7-8 years old that work perfectly. I did a quality scan on the DVD-Rs recently using a BenQ 1650 drive and the disc is still good.

in for 1 stack. make sure you change the shipping to 7 to 9 days, otherwise buy.com is a bunch of db's and charges you for it.
