Is that thing any good? I heard that the processing is done by your machine, and thus it can be pretty bad

If you have a newer Laptop with dual core and a 2gb mem chip. This works very well under XP or Vista. It can take basic cable, over the analog and over the air HDTV. I have it at works well with my HP AMD x2 setup. But, yes it is software based and the stick gets pretty hot when in use. You wouldn't use this for a desktop. Put a card in for that.

CompUSA needs to shut down. That place has idiots for employees. I went there earlier today to exchange a game for my brother that had a defective disk and I asked if they could test out the new one to see if it would work and these people acted like I was asking them to do something wrong. The manufacturer told my brother several disks went out that had nothing on them, so I did not think that it was unusual to ask that. They sent me from one department to the next until we finally cornered one guy into doing it. I didn't see anyone even trying to do any work, no one wanted to help us that is all.

ha I agree #4. That place has the crappiest costumer service ever.

I have an HVR-950 and use it with my HP notebook that only has a 1.6GHz Celeron M, and it works for the analog and standard definition channels but it -barely- works for some high-def channels.

I got this over a year ago just to see what ATSC signals I could pull out of the air (quite a few, as it turns out), so I never really intended to use it full time on my lower-end notebook. I just fiddle with it once in a while.

As someone else said, if you have a desktop, buy a card. Otherwise, if you have a high-end laptop, this should work.

#4: I totally agree. Once they had little competition. Now no one has to put up with their crap. Good riddance.
