WD's hard drive is the best I have ever used.

Western Digital is the worst HDD I ever used.
My 3.5 WD HDD makes loud high frequency noise, which is killing me...

I've actually had good luck with WDs made in the past three or four years. And their latest desktop models are dead quiet.

I stay away from IBM/Hitachi notebook drives, on the other hand. Granted, personal experience does not a statistical average make, but the only notebook drives I've ever had utterly fail without warning were Travelstars.

and how is this a deal? I got one of these 5 months ago for this price

The deal seems okay for me. It's not like a huge steal. Do people really need extra space on their laptops? I store anything large that I need either on DVDR's, external hd's, or cheap internal hd's.

Yeah, hard to find good 7200RPM ATA drives on sale.

Seagate FTW! Why bother with this, when sys admins prefer Seagate.
