I was seriously considering an Xbox 360 until the whole Warner Blu-ray thing happened. Now I am thinking I want a Blu-ray player and the PS3 would be worth the price hike from the Xbox 360. For someone who is looking for a good deal on a system though this does seem to be a pretty good price.

As far as Xbox live is concerned, it's day-to-day. I know someone who works at the same company with a guy on the team resolving the current problems (not @ Microsoft). Cross your fingers that there won't be future problems.
That being said, this is a good find if you don't absolutely NEED the HDMI cable. I don't have an HDtv, and own the premium version and I've never had a hiccup. And even if you do need the cable, Amazon has 'em for 43 bucks new, 34 used. If you are in the market for a newer system with a large gaming library, this is a good buy.

This one still outputs to 1080p via component. HDMI is not necessary. Great deal!

I don't have much input on the refurb versions of the 360, but I can say something about the whole PS3 vs. 360 debate. We have always had a Sony platform system since the original Playstation. I can honestly say that everyone in my house prefers the 360. I have a Vista Ultimate PC that records all of their favorite shows in HD. We rip all of our movies to that HDD as well. My kids play their music from their iPods. Never has a "game console" simplified our complete entertainment experience. So much that I am heavily considering buying a refurb standard 360 as an additional media extender alone. Cheaper than building another HTPC.
So, go and buy your PS3 for the Blu-ray drive. But your logic there is partially hypocritical. You buy the PS3 because Blu-ray titles are more widely available, but PS3 games are limited compared to the 360.
However, if you are looking for a complete entertainment device, the 360 is where it's at.

#27.... PS3 games selection might be limited right now because 360 has like what.. a year head start? Base on the titles offered on PS2 vs XBox... I wouldn't think PS3 selections would be that limited after another year or so.

#29 Good points. I will agree that MS got a good jump on Sony. My point is not what _might_be coming as far as titles. Clearly today the 360 has 99% of the titles that are available for the PS3, but the same cannot be said for the PS3. Halo3 alone is worth the 360 IMHO.
I don't think it is really fair to judge by PS2 and Xbox (original) titles either. Who would buy a new system depending on your old titles that will look the same on your old hardware? I still have 2 PS2s and can always use them if we feel like playing older titles. No need to stay with the Sony platform for that sake.

| What is all this talk about xbox live being down all the time? I've never once had a problem getting on or staying on live. People just play your damn systems and stop crying about the others. |
I have not seen Live "down" before, but I have seen sporatic connectivity issues. I first thought it was my router, or my cable modem acting up. But, after replacing both, rewiring the drop, and moving that drop directly to the switch built into the router vs. my larger Gb switch, I can say quite surely that Live has issues. Are there better carrier networks out there? Are the issues client based or server based? That I cannot answer. But problems do exist. Maybe it is based on location or carrier.
