I wasn't sure this would be worth it, but you can really do a lot with your phone using this - like converting songs to ring tones - and it updates as new phones/versions come out. Nice software.

anybody used the modem feature w/ this item?
do you have to pay any extra service w/ your provider?
or this makes your cell work like a dial up modem like the good old days?

Not sure about your carrier, but normally data service is different from voice service. The modem feature is considered data, so you would likely pay extra for it.

That's why I LOVE MetroPCS. Flat rate for unlimited everything, and no contract.

Maybe I'm just a tech retard, but I bought this to retrieve photos and stuff from my Verizon Razr. It wouldn't recognize it at all. I used the control panel to find the drive, or whatever, and no luck. So I gave up.

If you have a dial up number and you have say Alltel you can even use that dial up number as one of your circle numbers = free connection but dial up slow.
If your have EVDO in your area then you can use it as a broadband modem and get nice speeds( for wireless), but you will have to have internet service with your cell account. I pay 25$/mo unlimited service with Alltel and tether my razor to my laptop and have the EVDO network in my area. I get EVDO coverage about 150 mile radius from my home and get anywhere from 200kb to 600kb down with it on the road or at the lake.
It Rocks!

Howard Forums are great, but for the Moto RAZR on Verizon, I think this is one of the best sources of info:
