Works fine, last a long time.
I had four rooms done up with converters in each room, all free, including install.
Since dumped the dish and went with cable/internet combo. No more life with the Slowski's for internet. At the cost of about $130 a month. Ugh.

wow.. seems like a lot to give away just to get you to sign up.. must be a sign of their level of service

I've been very happy with it #1, and just waiting for a deal to upgrade to HD.

I was a directv customer, went to dish because of a "deal". Their customer service was absolutely horrible. Ended up canceling the service and going back to directv. Directv's customer service has always done exceptionally well IMO. Dish's... not so much.

Well, for the Visa gift card you have to be a new customer, so that's out of the deal for me. I wonder what other fine print there is.

Signed up with HD as part of the contract. The contract was for 18 months, but it only took them two months to double my HD fees up to $20. Very bait and switch if you ask me.
Loses sattelite if particularly severe thunderstorms move through (thus I wouldn't even consider satellite service in the midwest if something else is availalbe - though I understand that often nothign else is).
They are happy to tell you that you are getting TNT, TBS, FX, etc, but they don't tell you that there is only one feed for the entire nature. Thus, if TNT tells you your show is on at 8, realize that the time is Eastern time (obviously not an issue if you're in the east coast). This means you had better figure on using your DVR extra time, because the show you want may be airing right about the time you get off work (even though it said it was at 8PM, it's 5PM west coast time).
My receiver regularly complains of a critical failure in the switch when flipping channels. It's easy to work around (just cancel or switch channels away and back), but very annoying.
Most of my peeve with them is that I feel that I got something other than what I was told I was buying, and I don't stay a customer with those kind of companies. I very well may stay satellite, but, if I do, I'll be going over to DirectTV.

Went to Comcast for cable, internet and phone, no agreement, month to month, six months for $75 (was a deal that maybe gone) and after that, we'll see.
Dish looks realy good. Got it for my dad for Christmas. Good picture, good service, they were there on time, did the whole install, showed how to work the system, then they were gone. The installer did try his best to get dad to sign long term agreement, but he somehow abstained.
Nice programming and HD looks real good. There two room system looks goods, one box, two or more feeds.

I've had Dish and currently have DirectTV. Customer service is definitely better with DirectTV than Dish. Service/package pricing is about the same, depends on which channels specifically you're looking for. I'd be weary of this long of a contract, may want to look into a guarantee of quality as a back-out so as not to be stuck with a $300 18 month threat.

As for the quality of satellite TV service, couple of times I saw the signals going off during the snow. But otherwise the quality is really great, especially the HD. IMHO, it's good but pay attention to the bills. (I did not sign up for auto deduction from credit card account )

Use http://www.allsat.com/?kbid=15609 as your URL and you will get the latest discounts. That site is always updated with the latest ALLSAT promos. Other sites are sometimes wrong.

I had Dish. It was good, but when I got an HDTV, they wanted a lot of money to upgrade to HD AND a two-year contract. At the time, they didn't offer On Demand like Time Warner, so I switched to Time Warner. Its technology seems slower (in use) than Dish's, but at least I'm not locked in to a contract, have movies on demand, and it's actually cheaper than Dish. A Dish point: several rooms can share one DVR; with cable, I can only watch saved shows in the room where I set it to record.

How often do you need to contact their customer service? I have Comcast cable and their customer service is horrible as well (for example it took countless phone calls and 6 months!!! to get the freaking thing installed). After the installation I have never needed to deal with their customer service.

That true of all small dishes. Water blocks the signal. Direct TV will probably have the same problem.
