Pentax K200D is replacing K100D. It has increased resolution and weather-sealed body.

K200D body is going to have a price tag of $699 so it is up to you if you want to spend twice as much on more MP and weather seal.

Is it better to take at slower shutter speeds?

The K10 is already weather sealed and 10M pixels.

The K10 is $900. What's your point? Pay more, get more? I had NO idea!

#7, the K10D is as low as $450 after rebate now. Even B&H has it for under $500 after rebate. Where the heck did you get $900?
The K100D has been $400 or under after rebate for almost 6 months. I know, I bought it last April for basically $439 after rebate.
Consider the K10D instead of the K100D by far, possibly the K200 as well. There are only a few advantages to the K200D over the K10D, and a few to the K10D over the K200D.
There are so many advantages of the K10D over the K100D. I have never use the "Point'n Shoot" modes on the K100D, so that's not an advantage at all. I've always put it in Program mode (it's pretty damn good at figuring things out), and as I learned more about SLRs in general, used Av/Tv (Aperture/Shutter Priority) more.

The K10 is nice but the picture quality is not as good as Nikon and Canon new camera. I saw multiple reviews said they were surprise that the K100D image processing algorithm seems to be better or the K10 is taking too much compromises: same size CCD as the K100D, that means trading pixels with noise, and Pentax seems not be able to keep the noise reduction under control so result in soft images (The K100 has very low noise CCD, so less noise reduction is required and got good praises).
I have a K100D and happy with the 6M pixel resolution. One of the few complaint is the poor indoor auto color balance and noisy shutter.
Don't forget to buy a set of Eneloop, the high cap NiMH sucks and leak too quickly. Eneloop works very very well and completely solve the battery problem.

I wouldn't want to be stuck with Pentax lenses if I have SLR

Good price. I like this over those prosumer digicams.

#14, what's wrong with pentax lenses? I know they don't have as much to offer in the long telephoto as C or N, but unless you plan to shoot for National Geographic and pay $2000+ per lens, I'm not sure what the problem is for layman. There is a lot of fine quality Pentax glass available.

Maybe try comparing new Nikon and Canon to new Pentax-Samsung! g, try comparing the Nikon D300 with its 12MP CMOS to the $500+ cheaper 14.6MP Pentax K20D, or stick with comparing the Nikon D40[x] to the K10[0]D. Apples to apples dude!
The feature set of the Nikon D40[x] sucks in comparison. The new Nikon D300 is quite sweet, but it is already $500 more than the Pentax K20D, and will likely be double as the price drops.
The "picture quality" depends if you're shooting RAW or JPEG. I'll be the first to admit that Samsung's JPEG processing is not very good. But when it comes to RAW, most agree, Pentax does a damn fine job. ... [Truncated]

#17, I was comparing K100D vs. D40 (D40 is not enough camera)
(Also K10 vs D80). K10 is not quite as good as 200D and D80.
Nikon D300 vs. Canon 30D vs. new Pentax will be a interesting fight... The new K20 has 14M sensor ? Hope they are as low noise as the K100D (or better noise reduction algorithm).
s The Pentax K100D is a very good camera for the price. It is highly praised and quite popular in Japan and Europe.
So How much the Pentax K20D and K200D will be ?

The Nikon D300 is hard to beat, honestly. g, Nikon went with the 900K LCD like Sony in their A700, whereas even Canon opted for the cheaper, sub-300K LCD like Pentax for its new model. Although the viewable angle on the Pentax (Canon too?) is supposed to be the ultimate. If you already have Nikon or prefer Nikon, the D300 is what you want, not the K20D, worth the cost.
