appletv should include an ipod dock so that ipod/itunes can become pc independent.
despite all the flamers/haters in here, appletv is an intriguing concept. immediate availability (as opposed to netflix), a large library (as opposed to xbox), a small footprint (as opposed to pc converted media center), and potentially a $2bn market.
will be interesting to see if appletv can become apple inc's next big thing after the ipod.

#5: What the fuck are you talking about? Netflix has immediate availability. Apparently, you're not aware of the tens of thousands of movies that are available for streaming. And, no they're not shitty movies that came out 40 years ago. I just watched Death Proof last night on there and that movie came out last year. So go pork merself instead of making up shitty posts that only serve to demonstrate your ignorance of the subject you're pontificating on. In closing, go down a nice big glass of bleach.

and how does the casual viewer watch those movies on their tv, hmmmm?
or are you assuming everyone is as nerdy/unemployed/friendless as you and watches netflix in their dark, dingy troll basement on their computer?
last i checked, most of my friends watch movies ON THEIR TELEVISION!
How is Netflix going to stream to the TV smart guy?
Last I tried Netflix streaming, it sucked. I had to install a proprietary plugin into my IE browser (FireFox not supported), and it was choppy over a standard broadband connection. And the library was awful.
How many unemployed trolls are there in this damn forum, anyways?

| #11 your HD TV will do that, so what's the point? The SOURCE isn't 1080p. |
Obviously it depends on how good the scaler is on your HDTV. Some (for example anything made by Philips or Sony) are not as good as others.
Think of it this way, if you have to manually change the scale on your HDTV (as most do), then you would not have to do it if your most splendid Apple TV was already doing it for you.
You are welcome.

#7: Have you used both?
I'm a charter member of Netflix, and i've rented movies via iTunes. There's a fairly significant difference between the two.

Netflix is going to have a set-top box in the near future. And I watch Netflix on my television in my living room. I have many computers because I can afford many computers. Allow me to buy and sell you a few times over and, perhaps, you'll get that into your fucking skull - douchebag.
Frankly, your post is stupid. You said that Netflix didn't have immediate availability. I refuted this because Netflix does have immediate availability. You made a factually incorrect statement. Why can't you be a fucking adult and admit you were wrong?
Go fucking kill yourself.

you can afford computers? wow, you must be rich! how much is a computer these days, like $299?
i wonder what the market is for consumers who have tv-enabled computers? jack shit, probably, because trolls like yourselves are a small market (read dirt poor, and probably pirating content anyways).
that's the point, which you don't see, despite my using plain english to explain. there is no market for trolls like yourselves, and netflix is on a lose/lose track trying to win customers like you over.
and a set-top box from netflix? ooh, i'm on pins and needles.
a dvd rental company is supposed to compete with apple on hardware/software development and production? you sure are making yourself look dumber with each post.
hey, if you want to debate my assertion that netflix does not offer immediate availability, based on the fact that people can watch on their pc's if they opt to install the netflix crapware and/or hook their pc's up to their televisions, fine. take that point.
but for the other 99.9% of netflix customers-- who have better things to do than screw with their computers all day-- there is at least a two-day wait for each movie.
use some common sense. the concept of netflix 'immediate availability' is ridiculous.
