We've been working with Yahoo! to more fully integrate our RSS feed with the Yahoo! Toolbar so that you can get the latest BensBargains headlines as they happen. Users with Yahoo! Toolbar 7.1 or more can find the BensBargains button from the Button Gallery. If you don't have the toolbar and want to check it out, download the toolbar and you should see the BensBargains module. Here's a preview of the integration.

Translation: Yahoo recently started paying affiliates a dollar for every download. This "feature" adds nothing which didn't already exist (click the orange icon at the top-right corner of the page), and is simply a way to compel non-savvy BB users into downloading a toolbar they probably don't want.

BB Admin staff: Please refrain from misleading your user base. I realize that retailers pay your operating fees, not users, but these things damage your credibility. Without credibility your users will leave, and without users you won't have anything to offer the retailers. It's bad for business.

"Those revenues were not immaterial. Everyone who views a video on Stage6 must first download the DivX player. Packaged with the download was an option to download the Yahoo Toolbar. The revenue from Yahoo to DivX is around $16 million per year. Our sources estimate that half that, or around $8 million/year, was due to Stage6 downloads. And that share was growing - 2008 toolbar revenues may have been as high as $10 million, making Stage6 almost breakeven."
